We’re often asked what steps to take when a rock chip appears in a windshield. Acting quickly can make a significant difference in preventing further damage and avoiding a costly replacement.
Step One: Protect the Chip
As soon as you notice the damage, place a small piece of clear packing tape over the chip. While most tapes will work, we recommend clear packing tape because it is strong, durable, and does not obstruct your view while driving. The tape helps keep dirt, debris, moisture, rain, and snow out of the damaged area—elements that can put pressure on the glass and cause the chip to spread into a larger crack.
Step Two: Contact a Professional
The next—and most important—step is to give us a call. The sooner a rock chip is repaired, the better the outcome. Unfortunately, waiting too long can allow the damage to worsen, sometimes resulting in the need for a full windshield replacement instead of a simple repair.
Scheduling Is Easy
Setting up an appointment is quick and convenient. You can call or text us, and we’ll gather a few basic details:
Your name
Your vehicle’s year, make, and model
The approximate size of the rock chip (dime, nickel, quarter, half-dollar coin, etc.)
In most cases, we’re able to schedule repairs the same day or shortly thereafter.
Taking these simple steps can save you time, money, and stress—and help keep your windshield safe and road-ready.
